Reminder! From 1 January 2025, a ban on single-use cups at mass events comes into force.
As of 1 January 2025, legislation came into force banning the use of single-use plastic cups at mass events such as concerts, festivals, sports, outdoor, urban, cultural and trade fair events.
This is part of the nationwide implementation of the EU SUP (Single Use Plastics) Directive, which aims to reduce plastic waste.
What does this ban mean in practice? From 1.01.2025, drinks must not be served in single-use cups made of plastic, even if they are labelled “biodegradable”, if they do not meet full industrial composting standards. Organisers are obliged to use reusable cups or solutions certified as compostable according to the regulations.
